A Nostalgic Holiday Tradition

This December, the Northside Historic District of Opelika transforms into a picturesque holiday scene reminiscent of Christmas in the late 1800s. Over 60 Victorian and historic homes near downtown Opelika will glow with festive decor, including life-size Santas, angels, carousel horses, toys, and other Christmas-themed displays.

Since its humble beginnings in 1993 with just a handful of participating homes, this event has become one of the Southeast’s most celebrated holiday traditions. It has been recognized as a top tourism event, even earning features in Better Homes and Gardens and Southern Living.

What to Expect

The tour is a self-guided driving experience that spans five days, offering plenty of opportunities to soak in the beauty of this holiday tradition. On Saturday night, however, the streets truly come alive! North 8th and 9th Streets will close to traffic, transforming into a pedestrian-friendly zone where visitors can stroll, admire the intricately decorated homes, listen to carolers, and even chat with residents dressed in authentic Victorian costumes.
