Lake Wilmore Recreation Center — Auburn’s New Wellness & Recreation Anchor
If you’re looking at Auburn real estate and wondering what makes a neighborhood truly livable, amenities matter. One of the biggest recent additions is the Lake Wilmore Recreation Center, a brand-new facility that lifts Auburn’s recreation game to a whole new level.
A Facility Built for the Whole Community
Located at 2000 Grove Hill Road, tucked just uphill from Ogletree Elementary, the Lake Wilmore Rec Center is packed with features perfectly aligned with Auburn’s vision for parks, health, and gathering spaces. The facility includes two full-sized basketball courts, locker rooms and restrooms, activity rooms, a fitness room, multi-use fitness/studio rooms, an elevated indoor walking track, and conference / meeting space. And that’s not all: the center also boasts a zero-entry pool for lessons and water aerobics plus a heated lap pool. The city wrapped up construction on April 16, 2025, with a capital budget of about $26.4 million. City of Auburn
Courts, Pickleball & Outdoor Access
The facility features twelve covered and lit pickleball courts—with six more under construction to open later in 2025.The courts open daily (sunrise to 9 p.m.) unless reserved, and the internal schedule includes a brief daily (1–2 p.m.) cleaning window.
Beyond the indoor structure, Lake Wilmore Park also includes multi-purpose synthetic fields for football, lacrosse, baseball/softball practices, LED field lighting, restrooms/concessions, and a children’s playground.
Memberships & Access
To align access with equity, Auburn Parks & Recreation rolled out new membership options in March 2025, timed with the Lake Wilmore center’s opening. Residents can claim a two-week free trial beginning March 17, then full membership and daily passes activate April 1, 2025.

Why Lake Wilmore Matters for Auburn Living
When you’re evaluating Auburn homes for sale or thinking about neighborhoods, proximity to facilities like Lake Wilmore adds real value. Imagine walking or biking down to work out, hit the pool, play basketball or pickleball, all without getting in a car. That’s a lifestyle differentiator.
Developers and city planners knew that too—this rec center is a central asset in Auburn’s Parks, Recreation & Culture Master Plan. With this kind of investment, neighborhoods nearby will benefit from increased demand, walkability, and quality of life enhancements.
What You’ll See (and What’s Ahead)
On your next drive past, you might catch athletes on the courts, swimmers in the pool, or the finishing touches being applied to remaining fields and trails. Later phases include completing the remaining pickleball courts, mountain bike trails, and multipurpose field expansions.
