Park History in Brief
Established in the early 1950s, Municipal Park was the first official recreation space managed by Opelika’s Parks & Recreation. Generous land donations by local citizens allowed the park to open in 1955 as a 20-acre wooded retreat. The Rocky Brook Rocket was funded by civic clubs to ignite interest in public recreation, while the monkey exhibit quickly became a local draw. Though the animals were removed in 1980, the park today retains its nostalgic charm and sense of community heritage.
