Auburn City Zoning Ordinance and Residential Occupancy: What You Need to Know
Certain areas of Auburn, or zoning districts, limit the number of unrelated people at an address to help reduce overcrowding and preserve neighborhood character.
There are three zoning districts in Auburn which limit to two the number of unrelated occupants living in a dwelling in those zones. Those districts are Neighborhood Conservation (NC), Limited Development District (LDD) and Development District Housing (DDH).
How many unrelated individuals can live in a single residence? Here’s a quick breakdown:
- Traditional Residential Neighborhoods: Typically, these areas allow no more than two unrelated people to reside at one address.
- Other Neighborhoods: Many of these neighborhoods permit up to five unrelated individuals to live at the same address.
- Student-Friendly Zones: Apartment complexes, multi-family dwellings, and mobile home parks are usually zoned to accommodate students and multiple roommates.
