Inside Auburn: A Behind-the-Scenes Look at Our Courts and Water Systems
What Does It Take to Keep Auburn Running Smoothly? I Found Out Firsthand!
When people think of Auburn, Alabama, they often picture the beautiful campus, SEC game days, and a tight-knit community—but there’s so much more going on behind the scenes that keeps this city running efficiently. As a local realtor, I believe staying informed about every aspect of our city helps me better serve my clients—and Session 2 of the City of Auburn Citizens Academy proved just how much goes into making Auburn such a great place to live.
During this session, we got a unique look into Auburn’s judicial system and water resource management—two critical systems that impact our daily lives more than most people realize. Our day began in Municipal Court, where we observed actual proceedings and had the chance to chat with Judge Jim McLaughlin. It was fascinating to learn how local laws are enforced and how justice is served right here in our community.
After court, the afternoon turned into one big field trip with Water Resource Management—and it was amazing. We toured several essential sites, including:
-
H.C. Morgan Water Pollution Control Facility
-
Well No. 4
-
Lake Ogletree Pump Station
-
James Estes Water Treatment Plant
-
And of course, Lake Ogletree—Auburn’s largest water source
Did you know that Lake Ogletree supplies the majority of our drinking water? Or that keeping our water clean requires constant monitoring, treatment, and cutting-edge technology?
We learned how water is pumped, filtered, treated, and safely delivered to homes and businesses throughout Auburn. Seeing the inner workings of our water system made me feel incredibly grateful for the hardworking folks behind the scenes who protect our health every day.
