But there are definitely trends.

Open floor plans exploded in popularity over the last two decades.

Builders began combining kitchens, dining areas, and living rooms into one large space.

Many buyers loved the concept because it offered:

• More natural light
• Easier entertaining

• Easier interaction with family and guests

For many Auburn buyers, especially those relocating from larger cities, open floor plans still rank high on the wish list.

Interestingly, some buyers are starting to move back toward homes with more defined spaces.

One thing I’ve noticed in Auburn real estate is that buyers often think they want one thing until they start touring homes.

Then we tour a home with a separate office, dining room, and bonus space.

Suddenly they’re interested.

Other buyers insist they want traditional rooms.

Then they walk into a bright, open great room with a large kitchen island and completely change their minds.
