Embracing Community: Celebrating Alabama Rural Ministries’ New Chapter
As a dedicated realtor and active community member, I was thrilled to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony for Alabama Rural Ministries (ARM). Founded in 1998 by Lisa Pierce, ARM began as a pilot project through the University of West Alabama Wesley Foundation and Auburn University. With a mission to support families with limited incomes in rural areas and create meaningful missional encounters, ARM has grown significantly over the years.
Initially, ARM focused on home repair projects, such as roof repairs and wheelchair ramp installations. In 2001, the organization launched the Sonshine Kids Day Camp to provide summer enrichment for local children. Today, ARM serves multiple counties, including Macon, Lee, Russell, and Chambers, with volunteers from Auburn and Tuskegee University, local churches, and civic groups.
ARM’s mission has expanded to include renovating abandoned homes, assisting veterans, and developing new builds. The Tuskegee Hub, a missions outreach center, and the partnership with I Am My Brother’s Keeper for after-school tutoring in Tuskegee highlight ARM’s commitment to transforming rural communities.
Being part of such initiatives allows me to assist clients not only in buying or selling homes but also in connecting them to valuable community resources.
