Auburn’s official colors are burnt orange and navy blue.

You’ll see them everywhere during football season.

They’re flying on flags outside homes.

They’re on Auburn University signs and merchandise.

They’re covering tailgates.

They’re walking down the sidewalks toward Jordan-Hare Stadium.

And they’re all over Downtown Auburn.

During football season, Auburn-themed displays seem to become part of the downtown scenery. Clothing stores and other businesses often feature orange-and-blue merchandise and Auburn-inspired window displays.

Restaurants get into the game-day atmosphere, too.

Walk around Downtown Auburn near Toomer’s Corner on a football weekend and you don’t have to wonder which college town you’re in.

Auburn University is woven into the visual identity of downtown.

That’s something people relocating here don’t always understand until they experience their first football season.

Here’s my advice:

First, check the official Auburn football color guide.

Don’t automatically assume orange.

Don’t automatically assume navy.

Auburn Athletics designates different colors and themes for different home games.

There’s something about an Auburn crowd dressed in orange.

It’s bright.

It’s energetic.

And inside Jordan-Hare Stadium, thousands of people wearing the same color can completely change the look of the stadium.

The 2026 LSU home game on October 24 is currently Auburn’s designated Wear Orange game.

But orange isn’t just inside the stadium.

During football season, you’ll find Auburn orange throughout Downtown Auburn — clothing, hats, shirts, dresses, decorations, window displays and plenty of Auburn merchandise.

That’s part of the fun of walking downtown during football season.

Navy Is Classic Auburn

Then there’s navy.

Auburn navy is easy to wear, and you’ll see plenty of it throughout town whether or not a particular game has been designated a Wear Navy game.

For 2026, Auburn’s November 7 home game against Arkansas is currently designated Wear Navy and is also the Military Appreciation Game.

Navy Auburn polos, shirts, dresses, sweatshirts and hats are everywhere during football season.

And, of course, plenty of Auburn clothing combines both orange and navy.

Downtown Auburn Dresses for Football Season, Too

One of the things I love about Auburn during football season is that it’s not only the fans who dress for the occasion.

Downtown Auburn does, too.

Walk around the blocks surrounding Toomer’s Corner and you’ll see Auburn’s personality in storefront windows, clothing displays, restaurants and decorations.

Some displays are traditional.

Some are elegant.

Some are fun.

And some are just wonderfully Auburn.

That’s part of what makes Downtown Auburn so interesting during football season. The university isn’t isolated from the city. Auburn University, Downtown Auburn and the surrounding community are closely connected.

You can go from seeing Samford Hall and other recognizable Auburn University buildings to walking past restaurants and Auburn-decorated storefronts within minutes.
