The Storybook Farm Kentucky Derby event in Opelika Alabama was such a fun and meaningful experience this year, and I’m so glad I was able to attend.
I truly had the BEST time—beautiful hats, great energy, and most importantly, getting to spend time with such genuinely sweet people. It was one of those afternoons where you almost don’t want to leave because you’re enjoying it so much.
But what really makes this event stand out is the purpose behind it.
Storybook Farm is doing something incredibly special right here in our community. Their mission is to support children through hands-on programs that combine animals, literacy, and outdoor experiences to help build confidence, emotional strength, and life skills.
Through horseback interactions, reading programs, gardening, and time spent with animals, children are given a safe and encouraging space to grow—especially those facing emotional, developmental, or physical challenges.
Even more amazing? These programs are provided at no cost to the families, which is made possible through community support and events like their Kentucky Derby fundraiser.
That’s what makes the whole experience feel different—it’s not just a fun event (although it absolutely is), it’s something that truly changes lives.
I’m so grateful I got to attend this year, and I would absolutely encourage anyone in the Auburn and Opelika area to check it out in the future or support their mission in any way you can.
Events like this are a great reminder of how strong and generous the Auburn-Opelika community really is. 💙
