Auburn Chamber Tuesday Talk: VCOM Strengthens Auburn’s Community and Healthcare Future
Auburn’s community spirit was on full display at today’s Auburn Chamber of Commerce “Tuesday Talk,” featuring the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine (VCOM). The event highlighted how Auburn’s educational institutions—VCOM and Auburn University—are working together to improve healthcare access and community wellbeing across East Alabama.
Dr. Meghan Woodham, Senior Director for Development and Alumni Affairs at VCOM, delivered an inspiring presentation on how the college blends medical education, outreach, and collaboration to make a real difference in people’s lives.
Key Highlights from VCOM’s Presentation
• Alumni Practicing Locally – Many VCOM graduates now serve the Auburn–Opelika area in family medicine, pediatrics, internal medicine, emergency care, psychiatry, OB/GYN, oncology, and radiology. Their continued presence strengthens Auburn’s healthcare network and ensures residents have access to high-quality care close to home.
• War Eagle Wellness Clinic – This joint initiative between Auburn University’s Pharmacy and Nursing programs and VCOM offers free care to underserved residents on the first Saturday of each month. It’s a living example of compassionate service and interdisciplinary teamwork.
• Community Outreach – VCOM students volunteer with dozens of local organizations—East Alabama Food Bank, Sheriff’s Girls Ranch, Lee County Special Olympics, Women’s Hope, Miracle League Baseball, Mercy Medical Center, Auburn Parks and Recreation, and more—proving that the next generation of physicians is already investing in Auburn and Opelika’s future.
As an Auburn University College of Business alum, I’m always proud to see how our city’s institutions collaborate to make Auburn a healthier, stronger place to live. Events like this reinforce why so many medical professionals, educators, and families are choosing to call Auburn and Opelika home. The AU College of Business sponsored this event.
If you’re considering a move to the Auburn–Opelika area, you’ll find more than great neighborhoods and beautiful homes—you’ll find a city deeply connected through education, service, and community pride.
