Picture this: it’s the 1930s, and Alabama Polytechnic Institute (now Auburn University) is bustling with activity. During this time, the Graves Center began to take shape, courtesy of the Agricultural Extension Service. It wasn’t just a single building; oh no, it was a sprawling complex consisting of thirty quaint cottages, an amphitheater, a grand dining hall, and even a brass bust paying homage to Governor Bibb Graves, a prominent figure from the New Deal era.
Now, these cottages weren’t just any old buildings; they were designed in the elegant Greek Revival style, adding a touch of classical charm to Auburn’s landscape. Originally, they were meant to house agriculturalists visiting for conventions, but fate had other plans.
