8th Annual SummerNight Downtown Art Walk
Auburn, Ala. – The 8th Annual SummerNight Downtown Art Walk, hosted by the City of Auburn, Auburn Arts Association, and the Auburn Downtown Merchant Association, is rapidly approaching! Mark your calendars for Friday, June 13 from 6 – 9:30 p.m. and join us for one of Auburn’s largest events of the summer! SummerNight is a free, downtown entertainment district event. Local and regional artists, live music by John and the Conners, children’s activities, and late-night shopping and dining with downtown merchants and restaurants are just a few of the fun activities SummerNight has to offer.
Cupcake Contest
In addition to all of the great activities, the community has the opportunity to participate in a cupcake contest. Ready to try your hand at baking? Cupcake contest applications are available online at www.auburnalabama.org/arts. Entry forms are due Thursday, June 12 and cupcakes should be submitted for judging on Friday, June 13 to St. Dunstan’s Episcopal Church by noon. Winners will be announced at 7:15 p.m. on the main stage of SummerNight. Cupcakes will be sold and all proceeds will benefit the Auburn Arts Association and its educational programs.
Live Music
This year’s SummerNight entertainment features local favorite John and the Conners. With a self-described style of folk rock and western swing, the group has taken the Auburn area by storm. It all started in San Francisco, CA when Chris Williams began writing songs, until a life-changing incident brought him back to the plains of Auburn, AL. Williams began writing songs with Travis Widner and a year later, the talented duo started playing open mic nights. Soon, the two added Tyler Wallace on bass, Jordan Walker, and the talents of Andy Cox on banjo to form John & the Conners, a group with a catch flavor all their own.
Artist, Merchant, Restaurant, and Volunteer Applications Available
Interested in participating as an artist, merchant, restaurant, or volunteer? Applications are available online at www.auburnalabama.org/arts and the deadline has been extended! Be sure to get your applications in by Thursday, June 12 to participate.
Children’s Activities
Looking to keep the kids entertained? Youth of all ages are invited to participate in SummerNight arts activities such as Block City, sidewalk chalk, and cupcake-themed projects. No event would be complete without a special guest appearance by Aubie! Special thanks to Briggs and Stratton for donating materials that will be used in Block City. The children’s Block City area would not be possible without their donation!
