The Great Backyard Bird Count at Chewacla State Park

On Saturday, February 6, 2016, come take part in the Great Backyard Bird Count at Chewacla State Park. This is a free, fun and easy event that engages bird watchers of all ages in counting birds to create a real-time snapshot of bird populations. Bring your camera and enjoy a morning of wonderful events. Introduction to common birds, attracting birds, great migration learning game, bird hike, Great Backyard Bird Count photo posting and a whooping crane migration tutorial. While in attendance, participants are invited to count birds and report their sightings online at birdcount.org. Anyone can take part in the Great Backyard Bird Count, from beginning bird watchers to experts, and you can participate from your backyard, or anywhere in the world. While the event is free, there is a $4 parking fee per adult at Chewacla State Park. In the event of rain, this event will be canceled. For weather updates, please email ppbirdingtrail@gmail.com.

Auburn Parks and Recreation’s Dean Road Ceramics Studio and Opelika Parks and Recreation’s Denson Drive Recreation Center will host the 3rd Annual Empty Bowls event on Saturday, February 13 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.at the Denson Drive Recreation Studio in Opelika. A minimum donation of $10 per person to the Food Bank of East Alabama entitles each ticket holder to their choice of a handmade bowl created by studio potters and a selection of soup and bread donated by local restaurants. Advance ticket purchases are encouraged. Empty Bowl tickets go on sale beginning Monday, Jan. 11 at the Dean Road Ceramics Studio, 307 South Dean Road in Auburn and Denson Drive Recreation Center, 1102 Denson Drive in Opelika. Checks may be made payable to the Food Bank of East Alabama. All proceeds from the event benefit the Food Bank of East Alabama.

Join doctors and other healthcare professionals from EAMC in the hospital main lobby for a few words about the benefits of physical activity, and then walk with the group on a refreshing, rejuvenating one mile walk around the EAMC Fitness Trail.
